SD in SEPT
... I'm gonna be there - and SF and NY !
I've been to the US a few times but not to SD or SF, since some of you are from these places I was hoping you could suggest some cool things to check out while I'm there. Places to buy good vegan Mexican food, pubs, record stores, local venues to see bands. Stuff like that. Travel brochures and most online sites are gonna suggest crappy things for dumb tourists to do - like Sea World ... Fuck that ! I wanna do/see some cool shit while I'm there. I'm definately going to Hamilton's to try a Cattle Decap burger, And I'll probably spend 2 hours at Amoeba in SF and walk out extremely broke like I did in LA haha. But recommend some other cool stuff for me to do while im there ! |

well.... i hate to say it but San Diego is rather boring. There's not much to do here at least that's how I feel. There might be a cool show or something but yeah, there's a world famous zoo and fuckin sea world which I don't support so that's useless to me. I can help you out in the food dept and hamiltons fucking RULES. Be sure to stop by Alchemy on the corner and say hi to Troy. He's head chef there, its kind of a hoity toity place though.

Haha Yeah I couldnt really find many cool things to do thats why I thought some of you guys might be able to recommend something.
Im gonna make a trip down to Tijuana so that will kill 1 day. We werent even originally gonna go to SD but I really wanted to go to Hamilton's so we kinda added an extra few days onto the trip just so I could go get one of those burgers! A friend said the Che Cafe is pretty cool but I havent checked it out yet. |

You should check out:
El Zarape (Mexican food on Park, NOT the shithole on Adams ave) or Colimas on University for kickass mexican food. Some of the best around. Ruby Room might have a good show going on. They've been doing all the metal and death metal. Che Cafe... meh, whatever.. Kobey's Swap Meet on Sat and Sun are really fun, Sunday has more vendors.. I don't know man.. I'm gone half the year, hahahah... The beach might still be warm |

In San Diego, check out Rico's on Encinitas Blvd. Get a Justin Burrito and hot sauce. Go to some breweries too. Ballast Point is down there, Green Flash, Stone (though I'm not crazy about the actual brewery).

Yeah I love checking out micro breweries, most (not all) smaller breweries dont use animal products in the fining process and are preservative free.
I LOVE beer but I never knew that some breweries used gelatin or isinglass as a fining agent. And they dont have to label it like wine makers do which sucks. It was something I didnt even think about till I saw it in some magazine at the local bottle shop. I read that there are quite a few breweries in SD so I might check out which have organic and/or vegan beers. It sounds pretty hipsterish I guess but if I'm not drinking just to get drunk I always try to buy organic or preservative free beer. I noticed Hamilton's has a HUGE beer selection as well. And I cant wait to eat good Meixcan food again ! |

haha, tours? oh man.. I wouldn't want to know what that entails... Yeah dude, its true but its not that bad. Crazy shit goes down there for sure but people still live there and come and go all day long between the USA and TJ. Its sketchy but you just have to watch your ass. When the cops are the main thing you need to be straight up afraid of, you're kinda screwed. SO, I just don't really go anymore. Alot of people don't. I know people that live there that think we're total pussies for thinking that way so, I don't know... Just don't go, too much drama for the past few years. |

Honestly, as far as Mexico goes, the further south you get the better it is. Border towns are shit for the most part. |

Yeah my wife said it was a shithole when she was there about 10 years ago, she couldnt understand why I want to go there. The only part of Mexico I've been to is Cancun and that area so I guess I just wanted to see a bit more even if it is shit haha.
Oh well - more time at the Breweries ! |

I thought that it seemed like a good way to kill half a day. No idea exactly what the tour included ... probably just a bus ride to the border ! |

Sorry !
If it bothers you just be more fussy when you buy beer. If I'm at a brewery I will always ask, and if I'm buying a beer I havent had before from a store I will usually google it on my phone to see if it is vegan or not haha. Alot are but some companies arent so I always check now. There are no animal products in the beer itself, some just use animal products in the fining process. I dont know why they dont have to put it on the label it if winemakers do. |
