Seriously. Pop music like Cannibal Corpse - Vile or N'Sync - No Strings Attached or Metallica - Ride the Lightning or Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

What an idiot.

Yeah, he's a total retard for saying what you might not like.
Most metal music is "pop music". If you'd leave out blast beats from all those "melodical death metal" bands and replace the guitars with accordions, you would probably hate it for being too faggy.

Just because something is MARGINALLY more accessible doesn't mean it's pop music. That's not even subjective. Get the fuck out.

Don't know about metalcore, but as far as actual music goes, this is the only metal song I can recall just now, which is based on the Ionic scale:

What pop-music is, is obviously a matter of definition, still, all this melo-whatever stuff is more or less just like Spice Girls with blast beats. Come at me bro. (Not saying I don't like it, I like Spice Girls too, haha)

So this is what your frame of reference for music is when all you listen to is overweight drummers doing "gravity blasts" and youtube dorks doing needlies.

Sometimes reading this board is like Lunchmoney Givers Anthropology 301. Fascinating.

As always, you apply a weird cliché which is maybe true for 5% of the posters here. I used this "frame of reference" because Spice Girls are technically shit, just like At The Gates or In Flames or whatever other Pop band. Easy-listening music which is good maybe for accompany your coffee in the morning while reading the newspaper, nothing more.

Pop nor esoteric music is defined by technicality either. Because Burzum are not technical they are pop music? Who ties your shoes for you in the morning? Fuck.

ok, so i'm drunk and this is slightly off topic, BUT here we go-

you know that scale that goes like this-

1-3-5-e
-2-4-
-2-4-
1-3-5
-2-4-
1-3-5-E

it sounds like that flashback into a dream or something scale.
are there any metal songs you can think of that use that predominately?

I was just listening to this album and it made me remember how they used to be pretty kick ass. They have some pretty fierce riffs to go along with that iron maiden worship. Vocals are hit or miss, but I don't mind them that much.

I'd say "it's not my cup of tea" but that's a bullshit euphemism. Sucks.

Apart From At the Gates, I think these songs define the genre Melodic Death Metal, pretty dark but melodic without being too gay:

Wow. Sorry that I provoke such hatred for using a more unconventional term for this music.

First of all I said its "good" pop music, and second I was referring to the spirit of the music which is very simply structured has like a Verse Bridge (Bridge2) Chorus structure with a solo in between and some addional part than back to the same thing. Sorry If I make connections to a song like "Billy Jean" there. There is nothing "epic" or "twisted" on Slaughter of the soul (which would make it more comparable to "serious music" opposed to "light music"), come on guys. Different style, same structure.

And just to let you know, if you have a classical background u refer to all things rock music as "popular music". Didn't wanna offend anyone in expressing myself differently. Very sorry.....

I wanted to post Serpentine Medea, but it's not on YT. I'll have to upload that later.

edit: And as far as the whole pop music thing goes, while that might apply to the most saccharine bands (Arch Enemy after Gossow joined being the first that came to mind) overall, I don't think the argument holds much weight. I was in high school during the last few years of MDM's hey-dey and many more people were listening to metalcore and the early "deathcore" bands (Job For A Cowboy, Suicide Silence, etc.). This is just my experience obviously, but I think you have to be very careful with the term "pop" music. Popular? Comparatively, yes. But there is still a level of harshness that pushes many people away.

so very obviously pop music...

as for the "if melodeath didn't have blastbeats it'd be pop" nonsense... about 80-90%, probably more, of the gothenburgain melodeath doesn't have any blastbeats. remove blastbeats from melodeath and you'd still have melodeath
