I still don't like it but maybe I change my mind about the songs when I see them live.

Also Incurso has an annoying guitar tone in my opinion, lifeless and dull. I know it was intended to sound like that to hear all the notes really clear but still meh another album I couldn't get into.

Except that neither party is omniscient. The listener imperfectly intuits the effect the band wanted, considers the effect he wanted himself, and evaluates how the album actually sounds against those criteria. The band imagines an effect and does their best to actualize it in the studio. Is it true by definition that "the album sounds how the band wants it to"? Maybe trivially. What about a band who is satisfied with an album at the time of recording, but isn't five years later? Their initial effort was imperfect, and funding will not always have been the cause. Consider the variables when a band and producer enter a studio.

Of course bands should produce albums how they want to. If I don't like the way it sounds, maybe I don't see clearly the effect they wanted. Maybe I don't like the effect they wanted. Maybe i interpret xyz sound differently than they do. So, the production debate isn't over; my language was too strong. If you've ever listened to death-metal-only types talk about why they hate black metal, they'll cite the "shitty production" of an album like Transilvanian Hunger. It makes more sense for them to object to the album's goal in the first place, because if you consider TH's goal, it's well-produced. Like Incurso.

I generally agree with what you're saying, I just don't get what point you're trying to make. Aesthetic preferences are totally subjective so people will always argue about production. Is there any more to it?

Right, the evaluation of material against criteria is subjective. I'm arguing that the criterion itself should be effectiveness, and that applying it means that both low and high-fi work can sit on the top shelf.

I get that this is obvious to people here. You have encountered someone who makes the mistake though, haven't you?

Was listening to their back catalog all this week and I think this is definitely the best thing they've done since AotW. I really like the guitar tone too. Has that thrash-like quality to it with all of the low end junk removed, which is reminiscent of a six string in standard tuning. It's not out here yet, but I'm guessing Dallas wrote tracks 3 and 7, possibly 10? Really wish these guys would put together some studio footage and include it with the purchase of the cd.

Sure, but there have been loads of comments saying the production is crap, shoddy etc., as in somebody fucked it up. Which is just idiotic, even if they don't like it.
