Anhedonist - Netherwards

Gripping, mesmerizing and flat-out massive; Seattle, Washington based doom/death metal band Anhedonist’s debut full-length “Netherwards” is an aural and aesthetic masterpiece. Spanning over 40 minutes spaced out across 4 songs, Anhedonist have created a mournful album which is sure to please even the harshest of critics.

Their 2010 demo “The Drear” only touched on the capabilities of this band combining harrowing melodies, monolithic riffs and scathing vocals to create an extremely memorable and complete debut sure to leave definable marks on the listener’s psyche.

“…their full length debut Netherwards a mournful monolith of subterranean strength, invoking the death/doom drudgery of its influences and then fashioning it into an irresistible, atmospheric emission that will have fans of Disma, Sonne Adam, Funebrarum and other contemporary titans of the form clutching their private bits in wanton cognizance.” – From the Dust Returned [Rating: 9/10]

Artwork and layout by Alexander "Bad News" Brown.

Love the atmosphere. Pretty good stuff ; as expected since this is released by DDR, which is one of the best, if not the best label in underground metal today imo (mainly because of their reliability, total dedication and their great band roster / choice of bands).

Very stoked for this album. It's tremendous. My favorite track is actually the 15 minute closer. Massive stuff.

Vinyl version will be done in a couple months through Nuclear Winter/Parasitic Records. I'll have the CDs in my hands next week. It's a 12 page booklet on "book stock" card stock with pantone print throughout. Original Alex Brown art throughout the layout.

You know, I typically dislike Death/Doom quite a bit but lately I've been changing my tune and have started to dig stuff like this.

The track posted doesn't sound anything like those bands on the review. New Disma and new Funebrarum (as full length albums) were poopy, doesn't do justice to the track which sounds much better.

Sleep of Morbid Dreams... "poopy"?

and it's no wonder it doesn't sound like anything in the review. that dude is one of the worst reviewers around

Hey Matt, when I search for Anhedonist on eBay an offer from darkdescentrecords pops up that says 12 dollars for the CD + 6 dollars for INTERNATIONAL shipping, is that correct?
If so, I'll grab a copy right away.
