You have to be completely in the mood for this type of music though (as in drunk at 3 am after a night out while it rains.)

I have no idea why I haven't shown you these guys before. Bunch of dudes from Italy who just absolutely destroy. They've released two EP's so far, Coda being the most recent and Bonsai. Both are extremely technical albums. This is the first track off of Coda.

^ came across Octopus on a russian board while looking for Chimp Spanner's debut. Ace stuff, serious groove with balls.

btw, this band is from Chile, not Italy. Chile's one of those countries that gives some incredible bands that have an undeserving low-key status.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, I'm sure some of you are familiar with Coprofago. For those who are not, it's a Chilean fusion metal band. They've got lots of angular riffs and the vocalist is a Jens-clone which makes it difficult for some people to listen to Coprofago without hearing Meshuggah. Well, those people are faggots.

THANTIFAXATH

caught them with Wolves in the Throneroom and Thou last night. They actually stole the show away from the headliners. Fucking phenomenal. Here is their ep

http://www.mediafire.com/?wjvm8788veyaxcy

Only available on cassette from Dark Descent...

This is ffo Deathspell, Blut Aus Nord, Baring Teeth, sheer evilness.

Edit: I suppose I should explain why they are "experimental". Just listen to the second track, you will find what I mean. They do this sort of major melody/trading with dissonance thing that was hinted on the newest Septycal Gorge, but way more fleshed out. Never heard something done like this.

I've been insanely busy these last few weeks so I haven't been able to dig around too deeply for new stuff but this recently caught my eye. Very impressive musicianship right here.

"16 notes: This tuning is best thought of as a combination of four intertwined diminished seventh chords. Since 12-note tuning can be regarded as a combination of three diminished seventh chords, it is plain that the two tunings have elements in common. The most obvious difference in the way the two tunings sound and work is that triads in 16-note tuning, although recognizable, are too discordant to serve as the final harmony in cadences. Keys can still be established by successions of altered subdominant and dominant harmonies, however, and the Etude is based mainly upon this property. The fundamental consonant harmony employed is a minor triad with an added minor seventh." -Easley Blackwood

This is a beautiful piece by Easley Blackwood I didn't see on YouTube. I have had requests to hear 16-tone music from people after they ask "why 16? or what does 16 tone sound like?". This doesn't display alot of harmonic properties or progressions, alternative temperaments or scales, but does explore diminished and shows a lot of the melodic properties and overall mood the fourths and fifths can have. One of many faces of 16 ..Enjoy.
I always wanted to hear a Western approach to microtonal music, and I stumbled across it the other day. This is like if boards of canada, 70's italian prog and acid were put together. I wonder how stuff like this affects people with perfect pitch...

You should definitely go. Apparently there is going to be audience participation, but I don't know how that is going to work out. I'm sure it'll be great though. Toby Driver and Co know their shit
