Track by track commentary by Maurizio Iacono pt 1
Track By Track Commentary Part 1!
Maurizio Iacono, vocalist of iconic Canadian extreme metallers KATAKLYSM, recently gave a track by track break down of the their new album Heaven’s Venom. The following is Part 1 of the commentary, which encompasses the first three tracks from the album. “A Soulless God”: “This song was written after a crazy experience in Vancouver where we played a show with KREATOR. We realized afterwalking outside for about a 5 mile radius or so that it was a crack infested, homeless concentration camp. It looked like zombie land. What happened is that for the Olympics they collected all these addicts and put them in this one sector. Our club was in the middle of it and we all freaked out about it. We couldn’t believe that they would let something like this happen in Canada. Anyway, the song deals with putting yourself in the skin of a homeless, addict and wondering where God is to save you. It’s a very thrash oriented song with some cool grooves and aggressive structures.” “Determined (Vows of Vengeance)”: “This song has a more tech approach and also visits some older KATAKLYSM while incorporating our newer elements. One of my faves on the album! Song deals with falling on your face, picking yourself up and moving forward. This one will be a pit favorite!” “Faith Made of Shrapnel”: “If you like our Serenity In Fire album, you’ll dig this fast paced hyperblast song. Speed, power, melody and tech all in one without forgetting the crushing power grooves we are famous for. The lyrics deal with someone you trust and believe in that ends up becoming someone that consumes you in the end.” |
