Currently dl'ing Alice, I already wanted to watch this since you mentioned it some other time. I didn't necessarily mean a sort of coming of age though. Just fairytale movies in general. A German channel airs such a movie every Sunday morning, we always used to watch that after waking up and cuddle and shit. Some of those were really cool but I don't remember any names, but for some reason they were mostly Russian, and if not, some other eastern country. |

The only reason I posted so many "coming of age" movies is that a lot of live action "adult-oriented" movies about fairytales seem to be into foregrounding the childhood/adolescent sexuality elements. I know Down to the Cellar and Alice aren't really "fairy tales" per se, but they take on a similar mode of storytelling. Little Otik, however, is indeed based on a Czech fairy tale, and if you watch it you'll notice a ton of references to Down to the Cellar. |

Labyrinth, The Neverending Story (I cried when my parents took me to this because I thought it would never end...) and The Dark Crystal are ace.

![]() Solid asian war epic based on a true story. Always love Kaneshiro and Lau, 2 of my fav asian actors. Jet Li manages a pretty solid dramatic performance for once, too. Quote:

I'm told that Louis Malle's Black Moon and Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast are quite good, but I haven't seen either. |

![]() Watched this last night, very good movie. It's paced a little slowly during the first half but it's all by design I think, I was quite tense during the last act. Fucking great character development. Overall real solid but could've been better, perhaps even oscar nom worthy. |

![]() I went in with pretty low expectations so I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't that bad. A bit too much of a sensory overload though, especially in IMAX. There obviously wasn't a huge wealth of character or emotional depth here but there was more than most modern action flicks. The story wasn't terrible but equally wasn't great. At least there was a lot of hotness to look at. |

![]() Mattei and Fragasso team up for this materpiece. Another so bad it's good film, it may bit of a Rambo rip off but it's really enjoyable. Here is a quite emotional scene with Reb Brown telling a dying kid about Disneyland. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Dorian Gray: Thought it was decent although I've never read the book (watching the film makes me want to). Was interesting to see how he falls into hedonism (even if it is kind of abrupt in the movie), Ben Barnes does a good job. Law Abiding Citizen: Enjoyed this one. The concept and idea was very cool although I, like others, thought the ending could have been a bit better. Cell 211: Finally checked this one out after all the recommendations in this thread. Great movie! Definitely recommend checking this one out! |

![]() Enjoyable film overall, but I have to admit the fighting scenes bugged me. The pros don't box like that at all, it kinda seemed almost comical. |

![]() Good story, well executed. Boring content in parts but that's due to my lack of interest in the economy. So I'd conclude that the film is a win for allowing me to look past the actual content and enjoy the story and characters. There were a couple of sentiments running throughout which are still valid today. I'll be watching the sequel soon to see if it's any good. |

![]() Excellent fucking job by Douglas, reminiscent of his performance in Wall Street. Pretty great movie, imo. Michael Bay fans need not apply to this one (if you catch my drift). |
