EXCELLENT! One of the best movies I've seen - perfect gothic and picaresque atmosphere, stories within stories within stories, and absurd humor.

Pretty good/depressing/disturbing, though I probably need to watch it again.

Thought this was pretty bland. The concept behind it is great and has made me want to check out Philip K. Dick's short story, as I had no idea it was adapted from one of his until the end credits rolled.

Having said that, this movie's a bit of a stinker. The character's are impossible to empathise with. Why should I care about them or how their lifes pan out? Also, given the source material and initial concept, the plot seems unambitious and completely middle-of-the-road.

i don't remember crying this much for any movie i've ever seen. as i type this, my nose is filled with snot. i knew the whole premise already, its the same Futurama "Seymour" episode but as movie.

i don't know what came over me but i just started balling, i laughed at the same time cuz i know its fucking stupid but i just couldn't help it.

fuck this movie.

that's my fucking SNOT.

What a piece of shit. I watched it because imdb listed it... Aoi Miyazaki, who played a fantastic role in "Virgin Snow" was the main char. Just that she really sucked here.
It starts out ok, the actors are mediocre, but the story seems to be getting somewhere.

Well it doesn't. Aoi Miyazaki plays an insanely naive chick, who tidies up the apartment of her boyfriend, who is a retard and prefers a not even remotely as hot chick over his gf.
Everything is fucking illogical in this movie. I constantly facepalmed, there is some deeper story about a punk-band, but I don't even remember. It had some heartwarming scenes, though I didn't really get why they are heartwarming, as I was half-asleep during the "relevant" parts. Still it manages to get some pro-soap-opera kind of feel to the screen... nothing more though...

3/10 (+2 just for the cuteness of Aoi Miyazaki included. Seriously, she acts so off and still manages to give you some focus to the "action".

Not really, but it's still quite moving. It's a pretty simple movie actually, but it just gets to you.

I'd like to see the Japanese original as well. I wonder how different it is from the US version.
Was actually hoping that you had seen it.

I always wondered about the statue as well, wtf? There is so much in this movie I think it's impossible to fully "get it". I've also watched it many times, but it's been too long since I last did, so I can't really discuss it right now... So fucking complicated. It still to this day baffles me how anyone could make such an utterly perfect movie, so rich in detail, so artsy, yet the opposite of pretentious... lol. I love this movie.

Was stylistically great; awesome long shots and great characters. Although the plot isn't very special and the movie isn't without its faults it's still a really entertaining and cool movie without any noticable, retarded pretension that it needs to live up to.

Recommended!

Poor character development (Life stories tacked into dialog. Some anecdotes seemingly without purpose).
Melodramatic (Director/writer treats the viewer like a kid and over-dramatizes particular scenes in order to get a point across).

Verdict: 5/10
I don't recommend it.

Additionally, the director/writer is a faggot who gave me high expectations after listening to an interview where his movie was talked about.
Also, don't be fooled by IMDB rating.

Akunin (2010)

Was great. A thriller/drama centering around a tragic murder. The first half was really exciting, as the dramaturgy ensures a constant foreshadowing and the cold urban environment makes it clear from the beginning that this won't end well. Collection of 7 shortmovies. The first one is some kind of dark mindfuck, not so good imo. The second one is just a fun and absurd little story, the third one is an absurdly colorful and funny sci-fi story, which is just super sadistic in the end. The fourth one was my second favourite, it's about a woman with athletes foot who goes to a "doctor" which cures it by letting her put her feet through a whole, where a guy is hidden who licks her feet. T'was really erotic, despite there being hardly anything to see.
The fifth one is about a guy taking a family hostage. Or isn't it? I don't know. It was very surreal.
The sixth one, "Justice", was my favourite. English class in a highschool, the uncarismatic teacher is reading the "Potsdam Declaration", the document that holds the terms of Japans surrender in WW2. On the outside the girls have physical education, and one guy in the class count's how often the girls adjust their panties.
The seventh one sucked.
