Any of you use an Ebow?
I'm considering buying one. The sounds you can make with them are pretty damn cool.

One of my favorite little things ever. It literally makes up like half of 5/5/2000..hahaha... the new blue ones are the best because they switch from guitar to bass and I've used one on a bass. All you need is that, a bunch of loud speakers and a distortion pedal/delay pedal and you're Sunn0))). Seriously.

I've never seen Sunn. Hope to see them in August here in Denver. I hear their shows are absurdly loud, to the point where the bass resonates through your whole body and you wish you brought ear plugs. Obviously youtube just can't deliver on that experience.

either way im stoked. ![]() there motto is, after all, maximum volume yields maximum results |

I would suggest ear plugs if you are in the front half of the venue.
I saw them for the Grimmrobe 10 year anniversery. Saw them on a saturday and got my hearing back to 100% on the next wednesday. Gonna see the LA show with Eagle Twin(they are pretty killer too) |

anything loud enough can make someone vomit. depends on mood, blood sugar level, inner ear damage, etc. All sorts of crap. then one dude pukes and all of a sudden "sunn makes everyone puke!"..haha..

I downloaded the latest sunn0))) cd, and fuck me that was some boring shit. I'd hate to see them live. I don't give a fuck how loud they can play, that's not talent, that's a larger electric bill.
The robes are a bigger clue that they're a couple of jackoffs. I'm not impressed. Travis turned me onto ambient, if he'd shown me that, I'd never listen to it again. Fuck sunn 0))). I'd rather shit on the edge of a roof and try blowing it up to the peak than sit or stand through an hour or so of that crap. |

Larger Electric Bill..........hahahaha
I think they are entertaining personally............ Try getting extremely high first, then blast it through your stereo as you lay down and try to sleep. Thats the best way to listen to this stuff, if that doesn't help then I guess it's just not your style. Last edited by TheGorefiend; 08-06-2009 at 05:28 PM. |

I'd really enjoy them more live if I could sit and watch em. Standing there just seemed weird. The only time I've seen em was from right behind them on stage. I was standing next to the fog guy. Yes, they actually have a guy just for the fog machine. The HOB smoke alarm went on and the head of security runs up yelling TURN OFF THE FOG!!! TURN IT OFF!!!! The dude was like "no way, we MUST have fog!" it was pretty funny. Apparently this happened every HOB night and I was surprised that the HOB hadn't known about the previous nights.
Their album with Boris is excellent though. I really recommend it to you jeremy. There's a song on there called "Sinking Bell" that will crush you. Its seriously beautfiul... you know I wouldn't recommend any crap to you. |

Sunn isn't for everyone. Just because something is easy to play doesn't mean it isn't good music in my opinion. Some of the best guitar riffs are the most simple ones, like Smoke on the Water. Yes Sunn takes no talent to play, but it takes talent to get the right sounds at the right levels etc. I think they do a good job of composing sounds which come together to create quite an atmosphere.
If you find their drone stuff boring you can check out stuff like Sinking Belle. My favorite song by them is "My Wall," which is much different than most Sunn songs. |

I really like some ambient type stuff, but I've never really known where to start with this band. Any recommendations?

That's the "Hacker/The Act" ep.
http://www.amazon.com/Hacker-Act-EP-...9710902&sr=1-3 I think Buried Dreams has both those songs on it but not these versions. That's a kickass album if you want to get a full length. Otherwise that record you and I used to trip on is that one at that link there. Remember all the rubber cmnt and coat of arms acid? hahahah |

its not really even a genre hardly. Its a way of playing music that has seeped into alot of other genres and styles like electronic, goth/"industrial", rock, etc... so that's a hard thing to do, recommendations. I guess Thomas Koner, Lull, Aphex Twins ambient albums, Voodoo Child, millions of fuckin soundtracks, etc.. there's a ton. Thomas Koner is like the absolute essence of ambient as far as sound rather than composition such as Brian Eno's instrumentals. |

What time did the show start in LA and what time did Sunn actually play?
Doors open tomorrow in Denver at 8, I want to know how much of a window I have. |
