WTF, Domination is not getting enough credit. Where The Slime Lives, Heartwork,Ceasers Palace...enuff said. With that out of the way, Blessed is the most darkest and brutal MA record...my top 10 easily. After hearing Heretic, they should've just called it a day so they can focus on myspace and video games.

when they had a taste from Covenant, they decided to make their pop album, which is Domination. there was a mentality trend at that time that most DM bands thought that DM was gonna take over Thrash. Wasn't there an interview where Davy Davy said something about the natural progression of music getting more aggressive being the next step as the new trend?
for example: Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding Obituary - World Demise EARACHE/Columbia scandal: Carcass - Heartwork Napalm Death - Fear Emptiness Despair Entombed - Wolverine Blues even Dismember's Massive Killing Capacity and of course: Morbid Angel - Domination there's a reason why Vile and Formulas were both so brutal. both band's frontmen wanted to be bigger, the rest of the band just wanted to play want they really wanted. Hence: "This recording is dedicated to all those who stayed brutal!!!" on the Vile album. Its also why Formulas is MA's retardly fastest and most experiemental album. After Davy Davy left, they were free to fuck around with shit and they knew their roots and were always grounded. also Domination plainly sucked. |

Domination gets too much hate... it's nowhere near the genius of what came before and after, but it's a solid album.... still I must admit, I pretty much never play it, since when I'm in the mood for some 'angel I almost always go to Covenant or Formulas.

From the way asian described it I figured it would be a horrible album, not that bad though, some pretty good tracks on this shit, and I actually like the little instrumental tracks as well... Vincent's vocals are sick, not a fan of the effects used on them at times, though. Also some of the lyrics are meh but I can look past that.

Yes, Vincent's vocals are very good on that album IMO. They're mixed a little high though.

I don't listen to Gateways that much, but probably To the Victor the Spoils and Opening of the Gates...
The opening of Ageless is fucking crushing though. |

i think your thinking of "to the victor, the spoils"...but that, "at one with nothing" and "opening of the gates" is an epic three song combo.

Opening of the Gates has the ridiculously fast double bass, but it's pretty widely acknowledged that those double bass hits were artificially sped up in the studio... AGAINST Sandoval's wishes.

Hahaha, the beginning riff of "To The Victor Go The Spoils" sounds like the first riff in "Dawn Of The Angry"

hard ass question but if i had to choose I'd have to say Summoning Redemption. it's just sooo epic, but I honestly love every track almost equally. my favorite moment on the whole album would have to be the solo in secured limitations. trey sounds like an alien when he takes that solo. I is also a really well written and catchy track with a great atmospheric bridge section. ahh love these guys too much.
