Any of you ever taken thermo?
It's kicking my fucking ass right now. Second thermo class I've taken and they've both been this way. I'm gonna be up all night working on this shit

I had to take statistical mechanics to get my Physics degree. It was a bitch and a half for sure. I've pretty much completely forgotten everything though...

When I saw the thread title I thought you were talking about some new drug. So it's thermodynamics?

haha sorry to disappoint you guys...I'm not talking about a drug.
This is pretty inspiring though. I got to invent a drug called thermo. The slang for shooting up will be "yo I'm adding heat". First law of thermo: the heat added is equivalent to the work you do. It's not easy but it's fucking worth it. 2nd law of thermo: irreversibility. Once you're fucked up, there's no turning back. Last edited by Tomes of Deceit; 10-06-2008 at 04:00 AM.. |

Yeh, we covered thermo this semester.. not a big fan of it, though.

thermodynamics? I saw it in third semester of Industrial Engineering, it is pretty complicated but not that hard really, although I guess you see it differently over there. I passed it with 15/20 (thats how grades are over here on all schools and most Universities), a long time ago and my career really doesnt work too much with that so i dont remember much, just those basic laws of thermo

It sure is fun, especially the concept of Entropy. I just had to recapitulate a semester of thermodynamics for my 'pre-diploma' exams. My trouble with the algebraic signs in nearly every of the proofs (e.g. the carnot process) still gives me creeps, even though that is the easier stuff to comprehend.

The thermo class I'm in now is materials thermo so it's all about chemical equilibria. That means no carnot cycles or anything like that, and probably pretty different than what you encounter in industrial engineering.
The other thermo class I took was more along the lines of turbines, heat exchangers, various cycles, steam tables, all that boring fucking shit. I'm in my second to last semester before my Sc.B in engineering and I've never even used cad or anything like that. It's just as well, because I don't really like the practical side of things that much. ![]() |
