I don't mention Defeated Sanity because I feel the musicianship of Defeated Sanity (and Wormed) are a complete hyperbole on this board. And when I mention Disgorge, I just meant mostly for its time it was envelope pushing. They have a lot to prove on their next record though...

I haven't heard Clandestine because I don't have a big love for the Swedish death metal scene as much as other people do. I like select bands, but Entombed aren't one of them. I'll give it a listen, though. Left Hand Path was pretty good from what I remember.

I have very little appreciation for the old swedish death scene. It's just not my thing. I love "Left Hand Path" and early Entombed, I like "Saltrubbed Eyes", Edge Of Sanity material and not much else. Dismember, Grave..etc absolutely nothing for me. I preffer Autopsy way more, for example.

...We're actually making threads about specific breakdowns now?

How long until we start swapping videos of ourselves doing spinkicks and floorpunches?

The influence is mostly in the drumming, I'd say.

Aww alright.

The melodic part in Pulses is so fucking awesome. And the breakdown afterwards... So good.

as for the next wormed album: it's not looking good. a friend of mine asked phleg about it at nrw and he just laughed and said "maybe in 2010.."

doesn't their drummer play in some really big band?

The breakdown at 1:20 in Ylem is so fucking heavy! Especially live.

Ok, kind of hard to explain if you don't play guitar (correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming you don't by the live pics i've seen of you).... many riffs in both bands are made up of short, usually repeated powerchords. Now I know you might say "yeah but isn't that what many DM riffs sound like?", but there's a particular way both bands do it, if you really want me to explain that in more detail then I will. Also, that little clean break in Geodesic Dome (not the bigger one, I'm talking about the one earlier in the song) is something very similar Cryptopsy have done in the past (ie. We Bleed). Then there's the many pauses in strange moments mid-riff that can make you think a riff starts and finishes at a point where it actually doesn't (compare the riff at 2:45 in Pulses In Rhombus Forms to the riff at 2:16 in Voice Of Unreason). Both Flo and Andy C effectively change the feel of certain repeated riffs in songs with the drumming by accenting certain notes (eg. opening riff in Planisphaerium). And both bands use big sliding parts in some of their riffs.

Many of these aspects are what made Cryptopsy unique in the first place, and Wormed use many of them within a brutal death/slammy context to great effect. I personally haven't heard any other bands that have really done that.

Hope that helps.
