in this heyday of shitty PC ports, it is most definitely sick. the attention to detail + animations are awesome.

So I have a week free from my job, and thus bought Final Fantasy XIII for xbawx to play through during that time. I should rather have bought Demon Souls or something, cause it's rather shitty. Essentially it's a grandeur soap-opera where the episodes have to be unlocked by running through pipe-levels and pressing "x" (the games' excuse for fighting).
Seriously, the fights are so cheap, some mobs take a felt eternity to slay, not because they are hard, but because they have about a million HP or so. I even lost a boss fight because I fell asleep during it... |

FF13 was a huge troll. It got decent after 60hrs, but by then I didn't give a fuck anymore. Fuck that game.

Yeah it's BS. It basically forces you to complete the game/story before it gets good. I was pissed to begin with, but once the game opens up I was like "Wow, REALLY?! NOW?!... yeah, NO. Fuck you Square-Enix". You might be able to get there sooner but it's still not really worth it imho.
If you're in the mood for that type of game you could try either Lost Odyssey or Tales of Vesperia. LO being a more mature, slower-paced traditional JRPG and ToV being a more youthful, light-hearted humorous old-school style JRPG complete with 3D overworld map and towns/continents, but with a real-time battle system(takes some getting used to). IMHO, ToV is the best JRPG released in this generation of consoles. LO being a close 2nd. There is a new Tales game just released called "Tales of Graces f" but I have yet to give it a shot. *Edit - i dont want to give the impression here that ToV or LO are amazing games but they are decent if you want modern jrpgs that dont suck Overall, this generation is complete ass for JRPG's. Ni No Kuni (Studio Ghibli/Level 5 title) looks to change that, though. Last edited by SixSickSix; 06-25-2012 at 12:38 AM.. |

I heard good things about Xenoblade(Wii) too. Been meaning to play that via the Dolphin Emulator on PC. Handhelds have some good JPRGs as well if thats your(anyones) thing
Yeah pretty widely criticized. |

Played Xenoblade with Dolphin. Don't understand the hype for that game. Combat is boring, basically on autopilot, characters are gay. World is pretty cool, I guess. Tons of quests to do. Weird MMO / Single player type hybrid thing they did.

I didn't want to spoil the experience, so for once I decided not to look up stuff on FFXIII, my bad haha. Well, at least the graphics are good, and Lightning is freakishly hot.
Regarding JRPGs for Wii, I heard good things about "The Last Story". |

As far as Final Fantasy is concerned, I can pretty much tolerate everything up until 10, and that's it. And even 10 left a few things to be desired. Such a shame, this franchise really had something going for it at one time or another...

Anyone play Tribes: Ascend? I forgot to download that thing but I'm just curious how it's playing right now with current updates n' junk. I haven't played Quake live in a few days. I need to keep practicing!

Don't own the box anymore but sounds like you have to pay $20 for the points.

I picked up Lord of the Rings: War in the North for like $17 for the 360. I'm having fun playing it with my girlfriend, but parts of it are definitely buggy and feel rushed. With some more polish it would be a really solid hack-n-slash. It was worth the $17 though. That'll fill our co-op void until Borderlands 2 comes out.

So after I reached the first open grounds in FFXIII, and realized that it'll take ages of mindless grinding to proceed, I got Dark Souls and having lots of fun.
The atmosphere in this game is so rad, sometimes frightingly evil, sometimes like a romantic painting come to life, sometimes like a fairytale-dream. Though I have to say, it is really hard, at least in solo-mode, since it gives you no clues of what to do at all. I don't understand how Shadowhunter said it was like games "back then" difficulty wise, Blade of Darkness was a breeze against this. |

I was lucky enough to 'find' the new shotgun for Scout yesterday. It's so funny when you start off with it your like a skinny heavy lol. The speed meter fills up pretty damn fast, though. "Meet the Pyro" was hilarious but I bet lots of people are pissed that they didn't mentioned if it was a he/she/something else :) New game mode is pretty cool.

LoL at "mechanically".
Mechanical-wise Dead or Alive is harder than both of those games, way to prove a point. Fact is, Dark Souls confronts you with lots of situations you have to run into without even remotely knowing what awaits you, and often it leaves you no other chance but to die or retreat. In BoD you could save at any point, which makes things vastly easier, obviously! The bosses are extremely hard if you want to fight them fairly (as in not exploiting KI and just shooting arrows at them when they can't reach you, which is fucking lame). Though I guess it depends on your specialisation, from what I've read pyromancy seems very powerful. I'm playing a pure melee knight (shield with halberd), which seems one of the tougher choices. Also a question: Did you manage to finish the game without grinding? With my build, I thought it was hopeless to proceed without an occasional grinding session (and I'm not even in the mid-game). what is KI? did you mean AI? because this isn't DeS where you could kill pretty much every boss with bow+arrows using glitches etc. when you enter a boss room there is no place where the boss can't reach you. ranged is OP when you "unlock" Logan with his uberspells and proper equipment and leveling and/or Quelana with her pyromancies, but bows and crossbows are pretty weak compared to "proper" meleeing (although a lightning avelyn + lightning bolts is a fearsome beast, as is the darkmoon bow + moonlight arrows, but those things are very expensive and late-game stuff) Quote:
then you suck at the game. if you grind for anything other than some specific equipment drops, you suck. on my first character i only "grinded" when i reached the final area since that was the most popular duelling zone for PvP at the "standard" SL of 120-125. when i reached it i think i was somewhere in the 60ies. i also recently did a low lvl run (SL20 until after O&S, SL30 until the end) with plenty of equipment restrictions and other than the 4kings and the occasional stupid death or death by lock-on, it really wasn't hard. |

That low level run sounds impressive, maybe I just have a shitty build, I don't know.
Maybe you could elaborate what was effective for you (not that I gonna change my tank) I read that heavy classes are more difficult, anyway. Also, it matters a lot if you look up stuff, or not (or play on or off, I play off), and I didn't really look up anything until I got cursed by those goddamn frogs two times (which is a hard gameplay element if you can't even reload). Anyway, if you don't qualify this game as hard, I really wonder what games you actually do? "KI" = Künstliche Intelligenz = "AI". |

I did a lot of grinding in Dark Souls. That being said, it's one of my favorite games of all time.
I should probably get that DLC for it. |
