adderall + guitar =

progress

I was hitting a dead end with my guitar playing, just not feeling like I was improving or getting anywhere
had to take an unfortunate break from guitar due to school
and last week I started picking up the ole axe
I popped an adderall this morning at 8am and havent stopped playing since
and I finally did my first sweep + 2nd, 3rd,etc

I feel fucking accomplished

I've only done it once, but a friend offered me some blow at a party once while I was jamming.. let's just say I had a fun time, haha.

It's easy to fall into that trap, especially in the death metal world... relying on pharmaceuticals to reach that next level of technique or speed... I can't make the decision for you, but, just be careful. Shortcuts tend to leave rough edges.

I'm prescribed 40mg of Adderal a day. When I first started taking them, it definitely kept me busy on the guitar (not that I needed the extra motivation). These days, I don't even notice the "high" that it gave me at first.

Only difference now is that if I don't take them, my life sucks. Not sure if I should just accept my dependency for the time being, or if I should start working with the doctor on weaning myself off of it completely.

I'll admit though... I'll usually pop one a little while before playing a show to feel a little more "perked up".

I took them via perscription, as well as a variety of other ADHD stimulant medications, for over 10 years. My senior year of high school, I finally decided to stop taking them after I had a nasty panic attack one day, and my heart rate felt permenantly elevated for several months afterwards, as well as arrhythmia where my heart would be beating like a Meshuggah song. Taking adderall made it much worse. I decided that taking amphetamines every day probably was probably a bad fucking idea, even though my parents and doctor tried to convince me it was "harmless". It wasn't hard for me to quit, but fear is a strong motivator... and when I struggle in school sometimes I want it back, and I know I could waltz into any doctor's office and get a scrip, but... I think I'm straight without it.

Ha. I KNOW you're straight without it. I agree that it's no good at all, which is precisely why I'm prepping myself to get off that shit.

Is this a common behavior? Seems kind of weird to me. It's like taking steroids, but for guitar...

It's more common than you might think... ESPECIALLY amongst drummers. Metal drummers in particular seem to have a strong love of cocaine...

I knew this dude, most amazing bassist, but he COULD NOT function without adderall. He popped tons of that shit just so he could play. Even had a heart attack once from it.
