Here are some of my all time favorite hip hop albums... Dead Prez - Lets Get Free (my favourite hip hop album of all time, rapping, beats and lyrics - everything is perfect) Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep Nas - Illmatic Jeru the Damaja - Wrath of the Math Big L - Lifestylez of the Poor and Dangerous ..and recently, I must say I really enjoy Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor... |

I sometimes listen to rap-music like:
EPMD - first 2 albums Wu-Tang Clan - first album Onyx - first 2 albums NWA - first album, some tracks from niggaz4life & solo stuff from Eazy, Ice Cube Mobb Deep - The infamous GZA - Liquid swords plus a bit of the early Ice-T (until OG) ... celebrities like Eminem, 50 cent, Puff Daddy, other sexy playboy fags and r&b in general is the worst...same goes for german rap |

Bumping dis shit instead of starting a new thread.
I've been listening to GZA/Genius's "Liquid Swords" more or less exclusively the last couple of days. I checked it out last year due to its receiving heavy praise from various posters on this forum - was a little disappointed at first, because I was expecting a very accessible album that would grab you by the balls from the first listen (like Jedi Mind Tricks' "Visions Of Gandhi"). What I found was a very dark and gritty album with relatively simple beats, and I couldn't really get into any of the songs save for the title track. However, after repeated listens, I realised that this album in fact is pure genius in its simplicity, featuring some of the darkest and most twisted beats ever put on record, insanse lyricsmanship and a fantastic flow to boot. GZA's "matter-of-fact", laidback rhyming is a pleasure to the ear. Worship! Best songs: Labels, Swordsman, Liquid Swords, I Gotcha Back. |

I've been listening to alot of artists from the Anticon collective right now...I listen to Doseone on a daily basis, Sole, Jel, Why?, Reaching Quiet, Clouddead, Greenthink, Subtle, 13 & God, Themselves, also Face Candy (improvisional jazz hip hop band with freestyling mc's. really good) Eyedea & Abilities, Abzorbr, Sector7G, Saturday Morning Soundtrack, Atmosphere, The Dyno Spectrum.
I Listen to more hip hop than metal right now... |

Pretty much everything mentioned on this page isn't the type of music you'd see on MTV (except maybe on Yo MTV Raps a long time ago...) or BET or anything. There's a huge difference between Shawty Lo and a dude like Big L. Almost completely different forms of music, really. On a sidenote, 95% of the dudes who listen to mostly hip hop shit nowadays probably wouldn't even know the majority of the rappers listed by Anthony. Anyways, some hip hop in the mainstream is by no means bad, a lot of dudes seem to just associate all popular hip hop with Rick Ross or something, which is sad.

Yeah there's a lot of horrible music played on the radio and TV, but I don't really see how it matters in the overall scheme of things. The underground will always be solid, if not grow stronger, and the popularity of most of these rappers who are "making it big" right now is extremely fickle. And, of course, it's all about pumping up corporate profits.

"G-uNOT". that was a waste of time but this guy behind us was high and extremly excited made us laugh

Hahah yeah that G Unot shit got annoying pretty quick, but he did release some killer diss tracks. His best stuff is basically all on mixtapes, his "official" albums are just flat out boring IMO. His new album might do the trick though, the tracklisting seems solid and the two singles he's put out so far have been good.

Some German hiphop acts are pretty killer; for instance Fettes Brot, Die Fantastischen Vier, Eins Zwo, Toni L & Def Cut, Blumentopf and Fünf Sterne Deluxe. Any similar artists you'd recommend?

Eh I can't really get into any of that anticon stuff. I kinda feel weird just listening to it. When it comes to some of the more recent hip hop to come out of Northern California though...
