This isn't about gear per se, but when playing scales at a moderate speed, to keep the non-played strings from ringing does one mute with the palm or fretting hand?

I guess it depends on your right hand technique.
People that usually anchor their hand use mostly their palm and a bit of their fret hand. If you have a floating hand, then that basically eliminates any palm action. Unless you want to make things harder for yourself. I wish the last two sentences had an intended pun when I wrote it. |

Couple Questions:
Whats a good alternative to the Spector ns5xl? Friend of mine has it, I love its style, and need a five string, but dont have 5 grand. Also, Is a 810BLX backline series gallien kruger bass cab worth it? Anything worth my time more and costs less? Id personally rather something small and mic it but Im not sure. I play a lot of small venues with my measley band and dont usually dont get the opportunity to mic. Head suggestions? Thanks for your time |

Who knows anything about ENGL cabs? I'm already saving up for a Powerball, but I don't have my mind made up as far as cabs go. And what would be the benefits of straight versus slanted for any kind of cabs?

Don't think I ever mentioned this, I bought this incredibly sweet classical at the beginning of the month:
![]() Only $300, it sounds decent and plays really, really well. And it's electric! Annnd I just realised there's a whole bunch of unanswered questions in this thread, haha. I'll get to them tomorrow. Last edited by Jotun; 06-21-2006 at 05:45 AM. |

I definitely didn't think your classical looked like that. I thought it looked exactly like an electric guitar, only made for nylon strings.

...Get a Dual Rectifier rackmount off eBay if you can find one. The only thing you might need for the rackmount version is a rack case... Look a couple posts up to see my racktifier.

The mesa has more "open" tone for rock and shit... very rich chording for stuff like Agalloch and Envy that needs that open sound. But if you try playing technical metal with it, does NOT get the job done imo. Too loose of a response, gets muddy as fuck when you start muting. The powerball is tighter than a twelve year old and roars like a beast - if you wanna hear samples of ENGL's, listen: http://www.rocksolidamps.com/sounds.php

Play lots of amps and make your own decision, don't go on what looks cool, price, or what the foolios on this board think. Because you'll just fuck yourself and your wallet.
Also, pickup/amp combinations are extremely important. |

I normally use my Gibson SG Elegant... Iguana burst ofcourse :) And If I am doing sweeps I like using my ibanez, I find it easier to sweep and tap on that guitar.
