We have one of these threads at another forum I am on and I figured we should have one here.

OK, I will start. I have been a bum most of my life. I only got jobs that were basically handed to my by family or friends. I have been painting for the last 5 years and basically I work whenever my "boss" calls me and says there is work. Those days are no more! I started this journey to start my own painting business 5 months ago and today I got my first job. I am all legal and my first job is at the complex that my "boss" just lost last month. I am friends with him and I do not know how to tell him that I am on my own now. I want to do it before we run into each other at the paint store. But yeah, going from 11 bucks an hour to about 35 an hour fuckin rules anus.

congratulations kevin. i like this thread - its interesting and hopefully will lead to some discussion.

I just got home from jamming at my good friends house...im wondering why i was so off tonight...just couldnt really get a good groove going. the last 20 minutes or so we finally fell into some fun but the rest was very meh.

I'm also thinking that should i finish some of this statistics homework so that i dont have to worry about it over the weekend, but its about a 9/10 chance i'll end up bored and doing noting sometime over the weekend anyway. So instead, I'm pondering a blag entry or firing up call of duty...or just collapsing in bed, as ive been trying to restore a normal sleep schedule in light of the internship im starting next week.

also thinking about how i dont want to go into work tomorrow after class.

that covers it for now.

Neat Kevin, my father is also a painter, and pretty much all his brothers are too, I never really got into the family biz , but best of luck to you and all that.
As for me I'm just on my work break right now, I get a sweet 3 hour lunch break ahah. Yesterday was the last day of chinese new years , and alot of people had fire works so it was sweet, now i'm just thinking about the weekend and just some plans .

Word, worked 6 hours today. Did a 1bedroom/1bath apartment with the livingroom/kitchen cieling and 2 different color accent walls. After supplies, I made about 150 bucks. I am happy with that.

I hear ya on tired - Im trying to break my 3-10am sleep schedule from my last job and get used to an 11-6am sleep schedule...given the time of this post its not working at all haha. im just sleeping like 2-6 and not sleeping solid and its getting old going on 4 days now. And my feet hurt cause i ahve to walk alot and my shoes are shot.

the painting deal is fanfuckintastic. i mean when there is work, thats the part about running your own biz is that you have to find the work most of the time. But hey I have worked less than 40 hours easily after today and they will owe me like 1200 dollars for the work I have done. 1200-350 for paint and such=850 for less than a week of work. That is a big jump from doing the exact same thing with another guy. It almost triple what I would have got working for him. Shitty part is I will have to pay the fuckin IRS at the end of the year so I am going to try and save money out of each check I get so I can avoid that. I had to pay them 1800 from the years when I worked for another guy who just paid me cash. That sucked.

I get done working today and pull out of the parking lot and low and behold there is my old boss who was working for this complex the last 3 years until last month. I consider him a friend and I did not know how to tell him. He texts me, so you got sheridan huh? and i say yeah she called me last week, then he sent me another one asking if i went for his other work too. I was like no i consider you a friend and I didnt send my price list to your complex and i asked him if he was mad and he said no. I have been talking to him for like the last 20 minutes about business and he said he would rather have me doing it than any other painter. I feel so much better now.
