Anyone else staying at the Sheraton City Center?

Hi everyone. I just booked my hotel room at Sheraton City Center (101 West Fayette Street). Is anyone else staying there? Does anyone know what the walk to Sonar will be like? Especially for a woman by herself (me) at night?

Stayed there with my fiance in 09. It was about a 10 minute walk, we walked home at night and it wasn't that bad. Slight hill. There are taxis around there if you're scared however they try to ripoff tourists by going up on the highway around it and taking much longer routes. There were a bunch of metalheads walking on the way. If you feel scared, ask groups around when when you are leaving and walk with them.

I'm staying there this year. I'm gonna miss the HI express this year but it was booked so early I didnt make it in time. Sheraton is not a bad walk at all, 5-10 mins, and it's right by the beer store and a bunch of food spots that we always end up near anyway. We got a small friendly group staying together, so you're more than welcome to walk with us whenever we're in and out at the same times.

i understand concerns of people not used to urban areas.....last time i was in baltimore i saw some bad spots....like shit ive never seen anywhere in buffalo....REAL slums. That being said, most of these worries are perfect ways to ruin a good time for no reason at all...being in the city is all about being aware, and looking confident. I mean, this is the Harbor though...im not to familiar with baltimore...but im pretty sure its safe....a woman may get hit on and hassled at night, or maybe the worst could happen, thats very unlikely though, im pretty sure...
Anyways, id let you or anyone tag along on the night walk..will have about 5 people with us, seems you are in the opposite directon though! haha, I vote dont worry about it.....

I'm also going solo, staying at Mt. Vernon, but I'll be happy to have a walking buddy.

A few friends of mine will be at the fest but we're all scattered around hotel-wise. Feel free to join in on our partying.

Yea the whole harbor area is in general pretty harmless, but traveling alone at night is ill-advised for anyone, especially a woman, in a place like Baltimore. Always safer in numbers. On a side note, You're from Buffalo Axeman? I grew up there too, live in Atlanta now, but I got a couple friends coming down from there to meet up with me for the fest. Always run into a bunch of people from there at MDF.

Anyone heading in the same direction as me and my group is welcome to walk with us. I'm big and scary lookin', and there will be 4 or more of us at most times. Look for the giant in the Slayer vest.

Besides there's usually more than enough cops patrolling the area, especially at night. The municipal authorities are aware of the magnitude this fest generates every year and so I highly doubt they'd allow that all go to shit and therefore risk losing much needed revenue that we bring to that neglected part of the city by not watching our backs.. even if we are nothing more than a bunch of drunken "metalheads".. lol

A dude in Slayer gear at a metal show. Could you be more specific...?

Just messin' with you dude. I'll keep an eye out for you and maybe tag along.

I, on the other hand, will probably stick out like a sore thumb. I have short blonde hair. Not your average metalhead look.

That's what I was thinking! "Look me up, I'll be the big White guy in a black t-shirt and cargo-shorts!!" Which, curiously enough, is exactly true...

And a Slayer vest.

But seriously...I'm 6'6" and like 350 lb. Like I said, look for the giant.

I've been gone for about 10 years now, but I still know a ton of people in the area. I visit there pretty frequently. I'm sure we do know some of the same people. Went to just about about every show that came through buffalo and rochester between 93-2001.
