Doesn't apply to the very latest thing they've released

Nope just think fans shouldn't have any say about the direction a band wants to take. Hey the older records you like are still there if you don't like what they do.

It goes without saying that they have the final say, but it doesn' mean I can't question their decisions and motivations. I'll try and find the link, but even Tomas said in a pretty recent interview that the ObZen art work was a mistake and wasn't what they were looking for, which begs the question why nothing was said at the time. A combination of Meshuggah-type apathy and label pressure, imo.

Do I think Tomas was happy with Re-Nothing? We'll probably never know, but when you go from an almost universally acclaimed great drumming/drumming tones album to sound replaced sterility...I can't see how. Fred seems very OCD with production, to the detriment of recent albums imo.

Any news on a release date? I remember some quiet noise about new Fredrik last year, but it faded pretty quickly.

last i remember he was doing some drum tracks with morgen agren and dirk verbeuren. i don't think he's ever mentioned a release date, just that it'll be a while before it's released since he's busy with meshuggah now.

Saw them at Terminal 5 and they were awesome. I think I was a row or two behind you Alejandro, saw you before they began to play but not afterwards. I got pretty intense up front, reminded me of the Gwar pit last year. Great sound, awesome fun. It's funny ... when I listen to Meshuggah now I can't stop that light nod.

Re: Meshuggah

Lesson learned - never underestimate the powah of the 'shuggah. Disclaimer - doesn't apply to Pitch Black.

The first year I thought the album was good, technical but it didn't grab me in the way that I'd be listening to it if I felt like putting on some Meshuggah. Marrow, Break..., Swarm felt weaker somehow. So I would put on Demiurge as the start to the album and work my way - 9,10,1,2,...

Anyway, I noticed I was listening to A LOT of Koloss through last year and this year, in fact last night too, almost every chance I got (like my recent Colored Sands kick). IT'S FUCKING MASSIVE. Riffs, production, vocals, everything. Marrow and those songs didn't feel weak anymore. Before, I was always comparing it with Obzen which felt perfect as an album and comparing it with their past stuff, Obzen sounds like they were pushing boundaries, making something new. Wait, that isn't true cos every album before Obzen was like that! Pushing something new. But Obzen for me crept into a 'Can they top this?' territory. Koloss feels different, like they didn't have to prove themselves to anyone. It sounds so confident in an authoritative kind of way.

My feelings for Koloss >>>>> than when it came out.

That was really painful. If I had a soul that's where my pain would be.

Kirk Hammett is an extremely boring soloist, so not surprising.
