Yeah, already one of my favourites, too. It's not like I'm complaining that it's too hard. It's difficult and that's good. But most importantly, the feeling, the atmosphere is just gorgeous. I didn't feel so drawn into a game since very long.

It just makes you re-think how a game is played. I can't think of another game where dying is such a crucial part of the gameplay. The campfire saves and such require you to use such an intense level of strategy at points.

The only thing coming close in latter years is Painkiller, but that`s hardly a new game.

Maybe you could elaborate what was effective for you (not that I gonna change my tank)
I read that heavy classes are more difficult, anyway.

Also, it matters a lot if you look up stuff, or not (or play on or off, I play off), and I didn't really look up anything until I got cursed by those goddamn frogs two times (which is a hard gameplay element if you can't even reload).

Anyway, if you don't qualify this game as hard, I really wonder what games you actually do?

"KI" = Künstliche Intelligenz = "AI".
you misunderstand. i don't think this is easy or "not hard", but BoD was a harder game. no magic, fast roll only with the amazon, very limited healing. only save scumming made it potentially easier, but that's borderline cheating (or at least cheesing).

i remember i looked up a couple of things on my first playthrough, but i'll be damned if i remember what (iirc, it was how to get some specific items that i wanted for my first build [that i scrapped since it was kinda shitty] since some were covenant-specific or dropped only from certain enemies) but i didn't look at maps or boss/enemy strategies etc. i think when i reached the kiln i looked up for the most effective soul farming method, but then i figured out a better one by myself (and posted on the official forum about it). i played on and offline my first playthrough

effective strategies...
-learn to block properly (watch your stamina!),
-upgrade your weapon and shield first (plenty forget to do the latter),
-learn to parry,
-don't ever go over 50% EQ load but it's always better to have the "fast roll" (EQ<25%, there's 3 rings and a helm that help with that. one of them is widely considered OP/essential for PvP),
-stack as much poise as you can while keeping the previous in mind (for PvE, ~40 should be enough),
-always have a method for pulling enemies (a bow, xbow or some magic),
-don't try to optimize your first build for PvP (a mistake i made),
-don't grind/farm unless it's for upgrade materials/weapons,
-it's better to learn enemy attack patterns and learn their exact locations so you don't get swamped, having some poison arrows around is always good,
-buy the bottomless box for better inventory management,
-buy the smithboxes/repairbox asap,
-if you find a boss difficult, go online and put down your white sign to be summoned for cooping (it's also a good method to get some extra souls if you need to buy something), or if you're on PS3 i can perhaps lend a hand or give a few tips, or go to the wikidot forums
-always have with you a couple of items that heal ailments (curse, poison, toxic, bleed. have as many as you possibly can for poison and toxic)
and probably more that i'm forgetting...

Edit: See last line

i remember i looked up a couple of things on my first playthrough, but i'll be damned if i remember what (iirc, it was how to get some specific items that i wanted for my first build [that i scrapped since it was kinda shitty] since some were covenant-specific or dropped only from certain enemies) but i didn't look at maps or boss/enemy strategies etc. i think when i reached the kiln i looked up for the most effective soul farming method, but then i figured out a better one by myself (and posted on the official forum about it). i played on and offline my first playthrough

So you did actually grind? Because farming for souls is pretty much what grinding is in this game.

effective strategies...
-learn to block properly (watch your stamina!),

I'm not a noob man...

-upgrade your weapon and shield first (plenty forget to do the latter),

I upgraded all of my "elite knight armor" by now, but I actually wondered: What exactly does it mean to strengthen your shield? Does it mean attacks over a certain level will be blocked (otherwise not), or does it mean that you just need less stamina to block?

-learn to parry,

tried that shit out, but my knight is sloooow, I thought just kicking the enemy and then striking was more effective. Gotta have to give that one another chance though.

-don't ever go over 50% EQ load but it's always better to have the "fast roll" (EQ<25%, there's 3 rings and a helm that help with that. one of them is widely considered OP/essential for PvP),

And that's a thing you can't easily reach with either:
-exact knowledge of equip
-a fast-type char
-massively grinding for endurance (which would be the solution for "knight"; I am barely under the max weight limit, and I have to keep track of strength and movement too, for mastering halberd

-stack as much poise as you can while keeping the previous in mind (for PvE, ~40 should be enough),

I found some ring, which leads to 86 poise, so it should be good.

-always have a method for pulling enemies (a bow, xbow or some magic),

Didn't do that, but never had problems with regular enemies anyway. They can be easily pulled by just kiting them away

-don't try to optimize your first build for PvP (a mistake i made),

Offline anyway

-don't grind/farm unless it's for upgrade materials/weapons,

this is pretty much how I did, though I threw some souls away upgrading stuff I wouldn't use later on, but how would you now what kind of equip you'll eventually find without looking stuff up?

-it's better to learn enemy attack patterns and learn their exact locations so you don't get swamped, having some poison arrows around is always good,

I learned "magic-spear", or what it is called, was useful a few times, but for real enemies, I'll have to go melee anyway with my build.
Poisoned arrows sound good though.

-buy the bottomless box for better inventory management,

I have that. Can I even sell all the chunk at some point? Or do you even suggest switching full armor e.g., to apply different strategies towards a boss?

-buy the smithboxes/repairbox asap,

gotta do that, yet the sith isn't really expensive either

-if you find a boss difficult, go online and put down your white sign to be summoned for cooping (it's also a good method to get some extra souls if you need to buy something), or if you're on PS3 i can perhaps lend a hand or give a few tips, or go to the wikidot forums
-always have with you a couple of items that heal ailments (curse, poison, toxic, bleed. have as many as you possibly can for poison and toxic)
and probably more that i'm forgetting...
If there only was a way to avoid cure, the rest, I have plenty of.
Anyway, offline, as I said

Also, regarding BoD, IIRC, the game had a quick-save function?!?!? How would you save-scumm on that one?

do you actually know how to read? i previously said i grinded when i reached the final area of the game since it was the most active PvP area at the 120SL range. jesus fuck

upgrading your shield upgrades the stability. i.e. how much stamina it takes to block certain attacks. and then you're not a noob...

what has character speed to do with parrying? that's entirely up to your reflexes and timing

man, you suck at this game. keeping EQ<50% with decent armour an weapons is easy. and you're using a fucking 6.0 weight halberd, not one of the 18+ ultra weapons. you still haven't figured out that movement trumps defence? that endurance is the single most important stat? fast-type char? what's that even supposed to mean? fffuuuu. noob, indeed

86 is a bit over the top. 76 is the max you'll ever need and that's for PvP vs ultra weapons. for PvE keep it around 40 so either equip some lighter armour and keep the wolf ring, or get a more useful ring in that slot (havel or FaP which should be easily obtainable since you're at least in the depths from what i gather). edit: it seems you also haven't realized that your starting "regular" knight armour is better than the elite knight armour in almost every way, but most importantly defence&poise/weight (same poise, slightly less defences but lighter)

soul arrow? you just wasted souls and levels if you're not planning on going the magic route. although 14-15 Int isn't a bad thing to have

yes, you'll be able to sell crap at one point

avoiding curse is easy. frogs die super fast, they have only that cloud-attack that you see coming miles away. i have never been cursed in over 1000h of playing this game. oh, and keep your "active" humanity at 10

My bad

upgrading your shield upgrades the stability. i.e. how much stamina it takes to block certain attacks. and then you're not a noob...

And where exactly is this specified in the stats? Upgrading shield just means more physical/etc resistance, so I don't get how this would be obvious (though I pretty much thought so)

what has character speed to do with parrying? that's entirely up to your reflexes and timing

like I said, I have to give that another chance, to me it seemed more effective to just kick the enemies, where they will lose their stance immediately, and strike subsequently

man, you suck at this game. keeping EQ<50% with decent armour an weapons is easy. and you're using a fucking 6.0 weight halberd, not one of the 18+ ultra weapons. you still haven't figured out that movement trumps defence? that endurance is the single most important stat? fast-type char? what's that even supposed to mean? fffuuuu. noob, indeed

Yeah, good job looking up on this 18+ whatever gear.
Anyway, I want to use heavy armor and halberd on this build, because that's how I like it. Just using lighter equip is no option here, not for this char.
If I started anew, I could take in all the wiki-ressources etc. and build an imba pyromancer, but what would be the fun of that? I'm a heavy knight. Point.

Heavy knight has heavy armor? But OK, I really didn't realize that, it said "elite" in front of it, and had better physical resistance, so I went for it.

soul arrow? you just wasted souls and levels if you're not planning on going the magic route. although 14-15 Int isn't a bad thing to have

why is that?

yes, you'll be able to sell crap at one point

Why should I have points of "active" humanity?

wtf man? did you seriously expect 6.0 to be "heavy" or something? if you don't want to use lighter armour, at least use a fucking useful ring that boosts your EQ burden to give you at least mid-roll. or gimp yourself on your first playthrough for no reason at all. jeeez. no need to be optimal, but at least use some common sense. don't pretend you're not a noob when you obviously are.

because you wasted souls on int to get the weakest and one of the more useless spells in the game (unless you start with it by going sorc) isn't a good idea? 14 int gives your "invisibility", 15 gets you one of the best cost/benefit weapon buffs in the game (oolacile catalyst great magic weapon) that is useful both for bosses and the occasional PvP

active humanity boosts both your curse resistance and item discovery rate.... and damage of chaos-scaling weapons (caps at 10, so other then some minimal defence rating boost, there's no need for having more than 10 "active" humanity)

I've been having a decent amount of fun with Close Quarters. When you find a game that has more teamsters than rambos, it's surprising how well designed the maps turn out to be. Also generally enjoying the new weapons.

Don't know what you've played and what you haven't, but I think these are all pretty good and are all pretty recent:

Portal 2
Dark Souls
Skyrim
Mortal Kombat
Arkham City
Rage
Mass Effect 3
Catherine
Space Marine

And although most people don't seem to like it, Duke Nukem Forever is only $10 at most retailers now, and it's not bad minus the long load times.

If for any reason you have friends and like local multiplayer like I do, I'd recommend these:
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Sonic and Friends All Star Racing (Excellent Mario Kart Ripoff)
You Don't Know Jack
Rayman Origins

A lot of these games are $20 or less now too.

Great tank clutch play from daskro and co. Close match as well, but don't have time to watch the full thing.

I'm really enjoying the JNG-90 with 8x scope. Great bolt-action, just slightly better than the L96 IMO, which was already quite a beast. Working on the muscle memory snap-to-head with this gun, a great transferable skill to all other classes.

The M417 is a beast up to midrange too, though the low bullet velocity is something I need to get used to especially at longer ranges.

I use the 8x scope as well. Could never get used to the 12x. I can't stray away from the m98b, the muzzle velocity and drop off are way too good to pass up. The JNG feels like the m40 to me. Lots of drop off and very low velocity. Also, the M417 is nice but I feel it can't hold a candle to the SKS (after the buff) with a flash suppressor. That gun is stupid accurate and can put more rounds on target quicker than the M4.

800,000 people have already bought Battlefield Premium. I'm happy for DICE, and glad the series is doing well enough that we can be sure the games will keep coming.

The Close Quarters maps aren't as fun as I hoped they would be, but they aren't awful.

I don't have the money for premium so I bought the stand alone expansion. I think it is BS that I have Karkand and CQ but I can't play on "premium" servers. I feel if you own the expansions and are up to date you should be able to play with everyone.

Re: The BF3 32 vs 32 game.

I remember when I first got a PS3 and people actually played MAG. This was awhile after it was released, so there had been tons of patches and it wasn't buggy at all. I played a 16vs16 clan match once and it was pretty fucking amazing. Can't remember if we lost or not... I think we did but it was a close game.

haha yeah the M98B is like a 'true' sniper rifle I suppose. I am trying to PTFO more with the sniper rifles as my skills increase, for which the M98B is pretty poor (takes up so much space on the screen reducing visibility, slow firing rate, small magazine and long reload time).

As far as bolt action rifles are concerned, the JNG/L96 are somewhere in between M40A5 and the M98B. They have significantly faster bullet velocity than the M40A5, but in turn their firing rate is slightly slower. That's why the M40A5 is the ultimate 'run-and-gun' sniper rifle. People have used them to great effect iron scopes (raysteinerz)

and WhiteMoose does some excellent PTFO play with the M40A5 8x

You can really see how the rate of fire is crucial to his objective play success with it, I feel the M98B is too slow for that sort of stuff.

So I'm working with the JNG90 and the M40A5 these days, these guys are my inspiration.

I briefly toyed with the SKS post-patch and it was good. I'll have to compare it closely with the M417, since I really enjoy that guy at the moment.
