yeah i've only watched a few gameplay videos and the style seems a bit cartoony and almost WoW-like. not as dark as i'd like it. this beta will probably determine whether or not i buy it.

I think I made it all the way to Vice Squad then said "fuck this is just the same mission over and over again" and quit. Wish I could have been able to run around and shoot citizens like most sandbox shooters.

Yeah it got boring and I had to force myself to finish it. They had a great idea, and most of it was done well, but it's not one of Rockstar's most memorable games. The only thing they should take from this and implement in GTA V is the facial animation technology.

I downloaded Binary Domain for shits and giggles. This game is some weird caricature of western third person shooters. It's basically an anime battlefield dating sim. The dialog blows my mind.

So this is tight. During the huge storms today lightning struck a transformer on the street behind mine and we had a power surge and my PS3 died. If I'm not still under warranty I'm screwed unless there is a way I can fix it.

yeah, it was fun for the like 30 hours of gameplay i sank into it but eventually i stopped caring about the storyline or any of my quests and found myself just powerleveling to be able to kill more stuff faster, then when i got 100 two-handed, smithing, and enchanting and either splattered everything in front of me or got splattered by random shock necromancers i decided mass effect 2 was a better use of my time

Not exactly. It's just an online action-RPG. The only MMO element to it is the auction house, really. Although I guess you could say it's kind of like an MMO but all the actual gameplay is instanced, similar to Guild Wars 1.

But then you could use that logic and say Diablo 2 was also an MMO, which I don't think it is, but MMO's did sort of branched off from D2's genre.

But here’s the secret, guys: you can’t out World of Warcraft World of Warcraft. It’s silly to even try. That game has a what, 10 year head start on any new MMO? Here’s my ultimate concern with the idea of an Elder Scrolls MMO: The Elder Scrolls games have always been premium quality. The best possible games in the genre that developers can make. The Elder Scrolls MMO will not be that.

I’ve got no doubts it will be an OK game. It’s being directed by the guy behind the eternally decent Dark Age of Camelot. It’ll find a community of fans. I’ve got no doubts about that. I also don’t think it will replace World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Starcraft or any other online game as the king of owning people’s time. And in doing so it’s going to be a shadow, when it’s a series that’s used to casting the shadows.

That doesn’t help your brand, Bethesda. It dilutes it. And for what? To cave into the idea that games have to have multiplayer to be worthwhile now?

The issue of Game Informer packed with info on the newly-announced Elder Scrolls MMO is already in some people's hands and, well, if you were hoping for a game that was basically Skyrim only with real people, you're in for one hell of a disappointment.

From everything contained in the article, it sounds like "Elder Scrolls Online" is basically "Just Another MMO".

Things start going wrong on the very first page of the story, as ZeniMax Online's Paul Sage says "it needs to be comfortable for people who are coming from a typical massively multiplayer game that has the same control mechanisms, but it also has to appeal to Skyrim players".

A page later? You're playing the game in third-person, and its combat centres around hotbars activating skills. Your attacks have cooldowns. In clear terms, that means no real-time combat. It is literally explained as using "World of Warcraft mechanics".

The only good news is that this isn't being developed by Bethesda Game Studios. So the single-player series shouldn't be affected by this.
