Morbid Angel
What's your favourite Morbid Angel album and why? Do you have high hopes for their upcoming release? A bit more than "this one owns" or "____ > ____" Only albums I haven't really listened to are Domination, Fatalz, and the last time I heard Heretic was a few years ago. For me it'd have to be Covenant. RiffMaster Azagthoth is out of this world, drumming is awesome and the vocals; talk about ferocity. The vicious vocal assault by Vincent is amazing, probably one of my favourite vocal performances ever. Not one bad track on this album. ![]() True embodiment of "win." |

gotta go with "gateways" with "covenant" being a very close second. i like the vokills a bit more on "gateways," and "opening of the gates" probably puts it over the top. song is sooooo good.
haven't heard any of the new material, but there is no way it can be worse than "heretic," which automatically gives me hope. |

Nothing will ever replace what I felt when I heard that intro to Fall From Grace for the first time... one of the heaviest moments in all of music. As an album though, Covenant is supreme. Their masterwork.

I can't say this in little words so don't bitch about a long post!!!! (directed at whiners!!)
Abominations: to chaotic, recording sucks Blessed: great album and decent production as well as one of my favorite album covers ever. "BOW TO ME FAITHFULLY!!" bad ass Covenant: Top 3 album for me. some of the sickest riffs ever as well as good production. rapture is one of the catchiest songs ever and the album doesn't have any eggs on it. Domination: yes there most popular but also the most memrorable. Some of the best arrangements and songs. Not to huge into the weak keyboard sections but oh well! formulas: My favorite album hands down. Heaving earth is my favorite MA song. fast as fuck and no one else but the 3 core elements. a couple ok songs but the great outweigh them by far gateways: I think this album is massively underrated. It has some really catchy songs and trey on vokills is a massive win. I don't know why he doesn't do more. To me it's a cross between domination and formulas heretic: Good album but for me lacks good songs, there are 3 songs on it that I love and a bunch of others that I can't never remember. I'm hoping that the new one does something different. every other band has progressed in some way I hope they do the same and I hope trey let's the other guy do some solos, never been a huge fan of trey's solos. One listen to the end parts of heretic and you hear the horrible wankery! |

Ha, I posted a fave MA album poll a few months ago. Covenant has long been my favourite, but this year I've been getting increasingly fond of Formulas and Gateways. You definitely need to check Formulas out, Marlon.

stfu anyway because this is an old school release that everyone should have already heard by now, including you. anyway, can't beat the first three. check out Formulas. "Nothing Is Not" might be the best Tucker era song they've ever written. *edit* why the edit? my feelings aren't hurt, haha. |

I started off with Gateways To Annihilation (mainly due to I guess a combination of the timing of when I got into DM - that being the latest MA - and the appeal of the artwork) and still like it today. Moved from that onto Altars Of Madness, again because of the artwork (as I knew no-one who was into DM or metal in general really), then to Domination and finally (in the sense of the important albums to me) Covenant.
Altars, Domination and Covenant have all jostled for the top spot in my esteem but nowadays I'd probably place Covenant at the top simply because of the instant double whammy that makes it past the first track (ie unlike Domination where all the incendiary power seems to be extinguished by the tempo of Where The Slime Lives). Altars has somewhat lessened in impact on me as it's gotten more one-dimensional the more I've listened to it to be honest, whereas Covenant especially just continues to grow. The only ones I've never really gotten MAJORLY into would be Blessed Are The Sick and Formulas Fatal To The Flesh, solely because they just don't seem to gel with me EDIT: Completely forgot Heretic even existed, it was that heinous an experience/existence in my opinion. Enshrined By Grace is the lone saving grace to be found on that entire bollocks. |

Covenant for sure. It's the album that got me into the band. Picked it up back when it came out after seeing the God Of Emptiness video on Beavis and Butthead.
Quickly picked up Blessed and thought it rocked as well - so evil. Never could get past the production to get into Alters. Gateways was the last one I've owned and listened to. I lost interest in this band a while ago, and could care less if they release anything again. I have the same attitude toward bands like Deicide and Cannibal Corpse. |

Covenant was like the most blatantly satanic album of theirs and it was released on a major label, right? Pretty interesting. and about chapel of ghouls, I LOVE Akercocke's cover of the song, so fucking awesome. |

![]() This. One of the best DM albums ever recorded IMO. I'll take this CD with me in the grave haha! The atmosphere is unbelivable... so fucking dark! Azagthoth's riffs could sink ships, and the drumming is crazy. And Steve Tucker's vocals are really powerful! |

Major label in the US only, everywhere else Earache released it and they apparently still class as an independent I think... though I might be wrong on that.

<3 Rutan's solo. but "Nothing is Not" just flat out grooves.
and the outro... ![]() \m/ that and "World of Shit" are my two favorite tracks off Covenant. I think it's also the third highest selling dm album of all time, or at least in the top 10. 137,000 copies sold or something like that. well deserved. |

Probably 2nd or 3rd for me, I really like the atmosphere on most of the MA albums. Trey and Sandoval fit each other like a glove, musically speaking.
